Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
Pre-prosthetic surgery refers to any surgery that is done to prepare the soft and bony tissues of the mouth for dentures or replacement teeth.
When a tooth is extracted, the area beneath the tooth may be left uneven or jagged and not ready to receive replacement teeth, usually dentures. In order for the dentures to feel comfortable and sit correctly and comfortably in the mouth, the bone and gums may need to be reshaped or leveled.
Pre-prosthetic procedures may involve:
- Removing excess bone
- Reducing excess gum tissue
- Bone leveling and reshaping
Most procedures are performed under some form of sedation. Options can be discussed with Dr. Hinckley at the time of your consultation.
